A 32-year-old man from Shamattawa is facing multiple firearms-related charges after being arrested in connection with a shot that was fired into the Shamattawa RCMP detachment shortly after midnight on July 15. Information received from the public led police to arrest Ried Branford Hill for his alleged involvement in the incident. He has been charged with careless use of a firearm, mischief over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a weapon while prohibited. The shot was fired into the detachment from a high-powered rifle at about 12:30 a.m. on July 15, RCMP say, penetrating the garage door of the prisoner loading bay as well as an interior wall before lodging in a wall in the lawyer-client telephone room. No one was injured, though there were prisoners in the cells and RCMP personnel working in the northern Manitoba detachment at the time. _ Ian Graham, Thompson Citizen
