Police have charged four area residents as part of a provincial sweep of suspected drug dealers. As a result of searches conducted last week, police have charged three Flin Flon residents and one Denare Beach man with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. The Denare Beach man also faces charges of possession of marijuana and possession of a prohibited weapon, brass knuckles. The charges came as a result of searches conducted by the Winnipeg RCMP Drug Section and the Flin Flon RCMP at the Royal Chinese Restaurant, Rack's Billiards and 26 Wally Avenue. The searches were related to a long-term Winnipeg RCMP Drug Section investigation known as Project Demobilize. Project Demobilize began in March 2002 with the Winnipeg RCMP Drug Section targeting Asian-based organized crime and the trafficking of controlled substances of Manitoba. In May 2003, the investigation became integrated with the addition of resources from Winnipeg Police Service and Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. A total of 66 criminal charges were laid as part of the provincial investigation, while searches seized about $140,000 in cash and about 22 ounces of cocaine.
