Plans are underway to enhance Flinty's Park along Highway 10A with a cross-country flavour. The intent is to move the focal point of the park, the Flinty Submarine, from its current cement pedestal south toward nearby Rotary Court. The pedestal would then be topped with a Canadian flag and surrounded on both sides by the flags of every province and territory, Aboriginal and Metis flags, and the United States flag. The flags were originally going to be part of the chamber of commerce's proposed Peace Park beside Hapnot Lake along South Main St. But after that proposal fizzled, the chamber began talking to the Flinty Committee, which oversees Flinty's Park, about merging both projects. "From the feedback we had on the Hapnot Lake site, that wasn't necessarily the location with the most exposure, and this seemed to be more fitting," said Doug O'Brien, chamber president. The chamber had previously secured a grant to establish the Peace Park and now hopes to use that funding at Flinty's Park by the fall. "It will give visitors a good opportunity to take some photos there and so on," said O'Brien. Other changes to the park are still being bandied about. "At this point in time, we're just trying to get the feeling of the group as to how it would look the best," said O'Brien.
