At the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting on Oct. 31. Karen MacKinnon was named the new president.
MacKinnon served as the chamber’s president-elect during Dianne Russell’s time as president. Russell, who served a two-year term, will now sit as the chamber’s past-president.
“It has been busy, a learning experience, a challenge and fun,” said Russell in the annual president’s message.
“It is a role I hope more people in the community open their minds to because I know they won’t regret it.”
A long-time chamber director and committee member and a long-time city councillor in Flin Flon, MacKinnon will hold the position for the next two years, becoming past-president in fall 2019.
Community Futures Greenstone general manager Becky Cianflone will occupy MacKinnon’s previous post as president-elect.
Twyla Storey will remain as chamber vice-president, while Bunny Burke and Kory Eastman are set to continue as treasurer and secretary.
Five of the chamber’s directors will continue in their positions, with Courtney Campbell, Mary Dwernichuk, Myrna Ewing, Laurence Gillespie and Dave Kendall all staying.
Former chamber president and past-president Tom Therien will join the board, taking the spot of Colleen McKee.
Finances
The 2017 financial report for the chamber, released during the meeting, shows a financially solid year for the chamber, which earned nearly $2,000 more than last year.
This year’s radio auction raised more than $7,000 for the chamber, up from last year. Funds raised through membership increased more than $1,500 over last year to $15,850 total.
Fundraising expenses increased by more than $1,000, but that was offset by a decrease in advertising and promotion.
Shrewd financial moves have shrunk the chamber’s deficit. The deficit, which sat at $2,748 after last year, now sits at $756.
The chamber’s budget for the upcoming year, also released during the meeting, forecasts the deficit to be completed paid off in the next year.
