There was a light schedule for the first Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce meeting of the fall Sept. 17 at the Victoria Inn.

Most of the meeting was focused on two upcoming events – the chamber’s radio auction and the Infusion Entrepreneurship Conference.

Chamber organizers Dianne Russell and Michelle Reid chaired the meeting and implored members to help canvas for the radio auction.

“This is our chamber initiative,” Russell said.

“It is one of the things that, as chamber members, we need to take ownership of and take a list and go and pick up... This is our chamber fundraiser.”

The radio fundraiser already has some prizes, including items from Saskatoon and Prince Albert. The chamber’s radio auction will take place Oct. 19.

The lineup for the 2019 Infusion Entrepreneurship Conference were also announced. The theme of the conference is “Retrain Your Brain.” Tickets are available at an early bird price of $50 each until Oct. 11.

Randy Grieser will headline the event. Grieser is the chief executive officer of Achieve and will be speaking about his book The Ordinary Leader: 10 Key Insights for Building and Leading a Thriving Organization.

Chief development officer for the Northwest Company Gary Merasty will also be speaking at the conference. Merasty, who grew up in Pelican Narrows, is a former Member of Parliament and Grand Chief of the Prince Albert Grand Council.

Janice Goldsborough, a human resources consultant, will also be speaking at the event, with an eye towards teaching new skills to business owners.

Tim Smith will add a local flair to the event. The owner of Kleen-All Enterprises and Kick It Sports will be speaking about his successes and challenges in the area.

The chamber will also present its business awards during the conference, with nominations open until Sept. 26.

“There's a lot of decision making that goes in the behind the scenes, but it's nice to have input from the community - it doesn't have to be chamber members,” Reid said.

“It can be anyone who really sends it in, but we're asking our chamber members to do that.”

Business representatives also got a chance to check out a map produced by the chamber. The map shows businesses and points of interest in Creighton, Denare Beach and Flin Flon. The maps are available at different spots around the community, allowing tourists to find their way around the area.
