Kelly Carrington Staff Writer A discussion regarding who was responsible for bookings for the new Pioneer Square took concern at the Flin Flon & District Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday. Dave Kendall brought the issue to the table suggesting the responsibility should lie with the City of Flin Flon. Following discussion, a motion was made to request that the City of Flin Flon take all bookings for Pioneer Square. Kendall said while the City is already responsible for things like the key to the power and the security systems, it would make sense to have the bookings there as well. Concerns rose from the group, before the motion was set, whether the Chamber was in need of Pioneer Square for its own purposes. It was said it wasn't needed until next year. A positive contribution was added to the discussion as "it makes sense to the public, since the City is open all year." More discussions followed the motion as members asked about the responsibilities of porta potties and similar items. Barbecues were another concern, as to having them placed on the new bricks. "We didn't think we would deal with this this year," Kendall said, adding that the barbecues weren't on the list of items to discuss, however the bookings were. Other issues Lois (Bunny) Burke asked all those involved with the Radio Auction to pick up their items from the businesses for the event, which gets underway tonight. With viewing open to the public tonight, Burke asked for volunteers to help set up as well as stay for the viewing and man the tables and phones tomorrow. Kendall and Doug O'Brien agreed to present the items on the radio. The Celebrating Communities Gala is fast approaching as Burke said all the recipients names are in from the City of Flin Flon and the Town of Creighton. Denare Beach this year, however, withdrew their participation in the ceremony. This year, six businesses and one ambassador will be awarded, as well as the volunteers. Again, Burke asked for volunteers to set up the R.H. Channing Auditorium for the October 13 event. "For all those who haven't gone, I encourage you to go," said Chamber President Joe Buie. "It's a very nice evening." Before the meeting adjourned, Buie discussed the membership renewals and fees for the upcoming year. Making note that the memberships will be sent out soon, the question arose whether to keep the fees the same or to increase them. "Increasing them would generate revenue, but the people may not buy if they are too high," said Buie. At last count, 108 members were on the list. No decisions will be made until the AGM, which is set for October 11.
