Jonathon Naylor Editor The head of the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce hopes a balance can be struck with Manitoba set to expand Sunday shopping hours. 'The chamber would always be in favour of merchants having the choice to make those decisions,' said president Kory Eastman. 'But obviously, hopefully there's a happy medium that can be reached between business needs and employees.' The NDP government announced late last week that it has launched a review of Sunday shopping hours. 'I guess we'd have to wait and see what the impact would be in Flin Flon,' said Eastman. He said he is unaware of businesses approaching the chamber to lobby for changes to Sunday shopping hours. Impact Eastman said expanded hours would likely only impact retail outlets that already choose to open on Sundays during the allotted time of noon to 6 p.m. In a news release, Family Services and Labour Minister Jennifer Howard said the province wants 'to consider the options for making Sunday shopping less restrictive but at the same time respect the importance of having time to be with family.' 'Other provinces have made changes to their legislation and now Manitoba's Sunday shopping rules are more restrictive than most other parts of the country,' she said. Convenience stores are exempt from present restrictions.
