Jonathon Naylor Editor A souvenir coin is set to commemorate the latest of many Flin Flon milestones. The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce plans to launch a geocache coin later this year in honour of the community's 80th anniversary. At last week's chamber meeting, president Kory Eastman said the hope is to have the coins ready in time for the Trout Festival this summer. Eastman called the coin a good promotion for the community and said more details would be available in the coming weeks. Just as the chamber did with its first geocache coin, issued last year, the hope is to involve local artists in the design. The chamber minted 750 coins last year, and fewer than 100 remain unsold _ a number that has chamber officials pleased. Geocache coins are intended to be included in the hidden 'caches' sought by those modern-day treasure hunters known as geocachers. Their hobby has them use GPS receivers and other navigational techniques to locate treasures hidden under rocks, in trees and in other outdoor locations. Tracking numbers allow the whereabouts of coins to be monitored online. Many people also buy geocache coins as keepsakes. The design for last year's coin was created by local artist Theresa Wride. The Reminder was then tapped to alter the artwork, making it more coin-friendly and adding an image of Flinty.
