Jonathon Naylor Editor To change or not to change? That is the question surrounding the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce's familiar logo. To come up with a suitable answer, the business-advocacy organization agreed last week to poll its membership. The chamber's present circular logo (pictured) features two F's Ð one of them in reverse Ð enveloping the smoking stack. Beside the stack are HBMS's South Main and North Main head frames. A recent decision to remove the smoke from the stack image prompted discussion of a potential reimagining of the entire logo. The Reminder's graphic designer, Jasen Bellamy, produced a handful of replacement logos to be examined and considered. Treasurer Lois (Bunny) Burke recommended that if the logo is changed, it should not look overly "busy" so that it can easily be transferred onto a lapel pin. Third vice-president Mary Dwernichuk favoured keeping the present trademark, while member Laurel Mackie said she likes the "fresh approach" of a new one. Time to proceed With the chamber now planning to launch a revamped website, Mackie said that if a new logo is in the cards, now is the time to proceed. Other highlights from the noon-hour meeting, held at the Friendship Centre Restaurant and attended by 18 people: Members approved a budget of $1,500 for a new chamber website, but it is not clear whether a professional firm will be hired for the development. Dawna Bennison, a local web designer, delivered a presentation offering to create the site for about $1,100 plus annual fees totaling $132 a year. That would include 120 megabytes of space and up to 20 different pages, she said, adding that she would ensure the website is "very, very searchable." President Joe Buie said the chamber has already begun bare-bones work on a new site. Members will review a sample page designed by Bennison before deciding which route to go. Members reviewed a letter thanking the chamber for its recent donation to Camp Whitney, which is set to undergo a round of upgrades. Members agreed to again host a downtown bannock brunch as part of the Trout Festival this summer. HudBay Minerals will provide financial support.
