The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce discussed a mixed bag of topics at their executive meeting yesterday. Highlights from the meeting, held during noonhour at the Friendship Centre restaurant and attended by 15 members, include: Treasurer Lois (Bunny) Burke tossed out a surprising idea for a potential fundraiser ? a Sadie Hawkins dance. She said such a dance, in which women ask men to attend, would be new to young people and a reminder of good times for the older generation. Since corsages and flowers are customary, she said some businesses could benefit. She said she will put a firm plan on paper and bring the concept back for further discussion. Burke called the chamber's recent Celebrating Communities Gala "a huge success" that will likely turn a small profit for the organization. The gala took place Sept. 16 at the R.H. Channing Auditorium and honoured volunteers as well as business leaders. The members voted to purchase a medium-size wreath to lay at the upcoming Remembrance Day service in the R.H. Channing Auditorium. Past-president Dave Kendall, who occupied the president's seat in Doug O'Brien's absence, noted that the chamber's 2004 annual general meeting will be held in November, not October as is usually the case. Kendall encouraged anyone interested in serving on the 2004-05 executive to contact him. He said no one has expressed interest in serving as president for 2005-06. O'Brien has agreed to let his name stand as president for 2004-05. Burke noted that Greenstone Community Futures Development Corp. has various programs for entrepreneurs coming up, including videos to be broadcast on the cable access channel.
