The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce discussed a hodge podge of topics at their executive meeting held yesterday at the Friendship Centre restaurant. Twelve members attended the meeting, highlights of which included: The chamber agreed to again apply for two students under the Green Team program. The students would keep the business and Flinty's Boardwalk areas clean this summer, and hand out maps and brochures. The province and the chamber would split the cost of the wages. Flin Flon Economic Development Officer Joe Buie noted that the new Flin Flon and Area Visitor's Guide should be off the presses before the May long weekend. The chamber agreed to purchase an advertisement in the publication. Member Lois (Bunny) Burke told the group of a grant program for students who create their own summer jobs . She said she hopes to find a student interested in applying with the People in Action program sponsored by Labbatt Breweries of Canada. President Doug O'Brien mentioned the photo of PC Party leader Stuart Murray and Flinty that appeared in Monday's Reminder, saying it gave the chamber's Flinty costume some good exposure. One person joked that Murray might use the photo in his next campaign in an effort to connect with Flin Flon voters. It was noted that the next Business Builders Association meeting is slated to take place this Monday, March 29, at 6 p.m. at Greenstone Community Futures Development Corporation on Main Street. Local entrepreneur Ted Ohlsen will be the special guest. It was noted that the next Chamber meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 6. Scheduled to speak are Creighton Mayor Bruce Fidler and Denare Beach Mayor Carl Lentowicz. A letter from Nancy Allan, Manitoba Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, outlined a new initiative to help create opportunities for women in the workplace.
