The Child/Family Resource Center Inc. recently celebrated 10 years of working in partnership with children and families in Cranberry Portage and surrounding area. The center receives funding through the Community Action Program for Children Ð Health Canada. "It is amazing to think that 10 years have gone by. When we were looking through our picture file for the History Walk we came across children who were involved in the center in 1994 and have now graduated high school!" said Wendy Trylinski, executive director. The F.U.N. Parent Advisory Committee helped to plan the event held Sunday, February 29. A community potluck supper was held, with special guest, Lisa Gamblin, who welcomed families with a traditional drum song. Special recognition was given to three women who were formerly with the center: Irma Head - founding board member, Sharon James - staff person, and Donna Reber - volunteer and early childhood educator. After supper, all the children who are currently involved and children who have been involved in the past and still live in Cranberry Portage were presented with T-shirts with their picture on the front and Growing Up with CAPC written across the top. Families were then invited to a Glow Skate and had great fun skating in the dark with their green glow sticks. The Community Action Program works within core values that lay the foundation for empowering change to take place within families and children within our programs. The core values are supportive environments, participation and involvement of families, capacity building and social action. "The ways in which these programs are offered have made a difference to the families we serve," said Wendy. "Parents are actively involved in program planning, participating in training and workshops and taking on social issues within the community, like housing and education." "I have great respect for the families we are in contact with and have learned many things over the 10 years, I thank them for that." For more information please contact Wendy Trylinski at 472-3671.
