Flin Flon RCMP are reminding citizens that with the cooler temperatures and recent snowfall, it is imperative that drivers take special precautions when operating their vehicles. Studded tires cannot be installed until October 31. As such, traction is greatly reduced on slippery roads. Drivers should allow themselves extra time getting to their destinations. Stopping distances are increased greatly; therefore, it is important to drive at speeds that can be safely controlled as well as initiating a stop well in advance to compensate for road conditions. Pedestrians are also of concern to police. Since many citizens are now bundling up with toques, scarves and hoods, their peripheral vision is often reduced. Drivers need to be especially attentive as pedestrians may not see or hear them approach. Common sense prevails in the winter months and police are reminding everyone to be a little extra vigilant.
