The city's budget of nearly $2 million for capital projects consists of: $768,919 toward the new water treatment plant. $267,000 toward the Cliff Lake line replacement project completed in 2009. $246,000 for various road projects, including repaving a stretch of Queen St. dug up last year; repairing the section of Hemlock Dr. from the corner by Elm St. to the Salvation Army; and work on parts of Sipple Hill. $189,000 for equipment purchases, including a new backhoe and two pick-up trucks. All three vehicles replace existing vehicles. $130,000 to install a power-bill-lowering heat recovery system at the Aqua Centre, similar to what is already in place at the Whitney Forum and the Uptown Curling Rink. $110,000 toward the construction of the planned skateboard park overlooking Queen's Park. The money comes from the sale of Queen's Park to the Flin Flon School Division. $60,000 to upgrade the water lift station near the site of the water treatment plant. $40,000 to conduct a study of the municipal landfill on orders from the provincial government. It will include a look at environmental safety and the remaining lifespan of the landfill. $30,000 to install two solar-powered pedestrian-controlled crosswalks. Three locations will be considered: across Highway 10A near the Trailer Court, across Highway 10A at Cook Ave. (where there is a signed crosswalk) and replacing the pedestrian-controlled crosswalk at the top of Sipple Hill. $30,000 to replace the worn-out orifices located on the city's water circulation system. $30,000 for sewer and water renewal on Lake St. $25,000 to replace the boxed portion of the feeder main stretching from the Ross Lake Market Garden to Adams St., as it is plagued by leaks. $25,000 for a water purification system for the Whitney Forum boiler system. $10,000 toward the restoration of the Hapnot Lake Wildlife Sanctuary. $5,000 to support Friends of North Avenue.
