A country star who had Flin Flon Ñ not to mention the nation Ñ behind him will have to settle for runner-up on Nashville Star, a country music version of American Idol. George Canyon, who has performed at The Unwinder and married a Flin Flon girl, finished behind Alabama's Brad Cotter for the top prize of a record contract. The cowboy-hatted singer was the only Canadian finalist in the TV program, produced by the USA Network and picked up in Canada by CMT. Canyon, 33, is set to tour with Nashville Star this summer, and at least one music columnist wrote that his time on the show will likely land him his own record deal. A professional musician for the past 14 years, Canyon met his future wife, Jennifer Fehr, daughter of Menno and Betty Fehr, while performing at The Unwinder in 1992. The couple now resides in Nova Scotia, where Canyon has steadily climbed up the country music hierarchy. Three singles from his self-titled debut album Ñ Her Everything, Enough Said, and Way Too Much Ñ charted in the Top 10 on CMT.
