Welcome aboard the Second Annual Voyageur Canoe Challenge, which will take place on Lake Athapap in conjunction with Bakers Narrows Day on June 6. Join the celebration and participate in this very worthwhile event. We're encouraging fun, fitness, and friendship. This will be a major attraction at Bakers Narrows Day. The Voyageur Canoe holds a team of ten paddlers. Each team will have a short paddle of approximately one kilometre. You can enter a team individually or you can challenge another team to race. We have two canoes. Money raised from the challenge will go toward maintaining and upgrading the Lions Handivan, used by many seniors to travel around the community. This is a most important service in our community. We are encouraging paddlers to collect as many dollars in pledges as they can. To help you recruit your team of enthusiastic paddlers, we are providing: A pancake breakfast or hot dog and drink for all paddlers. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed teams, for the loudest/craziest cheer, and for most money raised. Ten team pictures for all teams. First and second place overall. Once your team has been recruited, go ahead and get pumped for your team paddle. Challenge another team, invite spectators, bring a mascot, wear costumes, make up special cheers Ñ go a little crazy! Make up a team name that you can displace on the side of the canoe. This project is being sponsored by the FLin Flon Lions Club and assisted by the Many Faces/Hapnot Recreation Leadership class. To register or for more information, contact Dan Reagan at 472-3275 or Graham Garrett at 687-6354. Charitable receipts will be given for donations of $10 and over.5/19/2004
