Calls to RCMP in Creighton and Denare Beach went up in May, seeing more than a 30 per cent bump in total offences reported to police.
Forty-nine calls for service came to Creighton RCMP through the month of May, including two assaults - one incident was a domestic assault ending in charges, while the second involved two intoxicated people fighting in a hotel room. When police arrived, nobody involved provided information on what happened.
Seven mischief calls were reported, with all but one involving public intoxication. The one remaining call involved a person damaging a hotel room used as a rental space. The person had apparently smoked in the room and was told they wouldn’t receive a security deposit back, then caused a scene, claiming they hadn’t smoked in the room. Officers inspected the room and reportedly found cigarette butts inside the room.
A single theft was reported within Creighton, a stolen bicycle. An officer located the culprit still riding the bicycle not long after, arresting the thief and returning the bike.
One reported sexual assault was later deemed unfounded. Other criminal code matters, including suspicious persons calls, were also reported.
In Denare Beach, a total of 67 calls were reported through May. The numbers included a dozen assault calls - one call involved a male fighting with two females while looking for one of their boyfriends, while another call featured a different man who had his arm hit with a knife, ending in no charges.
One female allegedly assaulted another female in another report, while two unfounded reports of assault came in.
Seven domestic assaults were reported from Denare Beach during May, a number much higher than normal for the region.
“This number is up greatly from a normal month,” reads the Creighton RCMP detachment’s monthly report.
A total of 18 mischief offences were phoned in, including broken windows at a home, a broken laptop and a person found breaking items in a parent’s home. Four break-and-enters, including two at homes near Amisk Lake and one on a garage described in the report as one that “gets broken into on a regular basis” were called to police attention.
A man was also found breaking into his own grandmother’s home.
Three thefts were also called to police - one stolen vehicle that was found later the day it was reported, one stolen firearm that was later found and items taken from a vehicle.
At Sturgeon Landing, two calls came in during May. One of the two was a dangerous driving offence relating to a dispute between two people - RCMP determined one person stopped a vehicle so the other couldn’t get past.
“The complainant just wanted the matter on file,” reads the report.
Another complaint was a mischief matter, where a complainant said another person had been found hitting a dog with an axe. Later, it was discovered they had hit a doghouse with an axe, not an actual dog. No charges were filed.
