Jonathon Naylor Editor Manitoba is hiking fees for cottagers in provincial parks beginning this year, but it wasn't clear Monday what the impact will be for Bakers Narrows residents. A government spokesperson said that, in general terms, fees for park-based cottagers across Manitoba will go up about $2,000 spread out over the next 10 years. That works out to an average annual increase of $200. But specific figures for Bakers Narrows, requested by The Reminder, were not available as of press time. The spokesperson said park district fees were implemented in 1998 to cover the cost of providing services to cottagers and businesses operating in parks, such as water, road maintenance and sewage treatment. 'There have been no adjustments to those fees for the last 12 years,' added the spokesperson. The change will not impact cottagers who live outside of provincial parks. The Reminder will have more on this story.
