The City of Flin Flon wants to put an end to any confusion residents may have about by-laws. Staff are planning to put together a pamphlet for public distribution outlining the by-laws that are often broken. "The pamphlet is pretty much going to be a guide to living in Flin Flon with respect to the current by-laws and how they will be enforced," said Rick Bacon, assistant director of works and operations. The pamphlet is expected to be sent to all Flin Flonners in their first water bill of the spring next year. Some common by-law infringements that will be clarified in the pamphlet include: keeping yards untidy with respect to debris and derelict vehicles; failure to obtain a building permit when necessary; failure to keep trees and branches trimmed so they do not hang onto roads and sidewalks; failure to license pets. "We try to contact people before we write any orders, to request compliance," said Bacon. City Council voted at a recent meeting to develop a method whereby the public would be made aware of by-laws and enforcement policies. The motion came after Councillor Nazir Ahmad stated that the City's crackdown on by-laws "has taken some people by surprise" and resulted in some "unhappiness" among the affected citizens.
