Flames quickly sent a house on the North Star Road outside of Flin Flon up in smoke late Friday night. Fire Chief Jim Petrie said the blaze was attributed to human error and started with an individual trying to thaw a pipeline with a propane torch. Six people were in the house at the time, said the fire chief, but there were no injuries. The fire started in the basement area, which was under construction. Petrie said the basement wasn't backfilled, causing air to feed the flames. "That house burnt down to the ground in half-an-hour," said the fire chief. "It was too far gone by the time firefighters got there." Since the blaze occurred outside Flin Flon limits, Petrie had to obtain permission from the City before responding. A crew of about 10 firefighters raced to the scene around 1 a.m. Friday night. The North Star Road is located about 15 kilometres south of Flin Flon.
