Jonathon Naylor Editor The Flin Flon School Board has ratified a budget that boosts spending and staff but not property taxes. As expected, trustees voted Tuesday to approve a 2013-14 budget worth $13.28 million. The vote was unanimous, though trustees Glenn Smith and Vicki Davie were absent. Spending will rise $378,860, or 2.9 per cent, over the current year. Nearly 80 per cent of the added expense will pay for the addition of 2.2 instructional positions and raises for existing teachers. The new staff will include those needed for an enrichment program for students who are academically above their grade level. Staff will also be added in the areas of numeracy and literacy support, as well as behavioural support. The budget takes in $12,111 more than it spends, meaning that small surplus will be added to the school division's accumulated surplus. Copies of the budget, which was outlined in detail in Monday's Reminder, are available at the school division office.
