A brazen thief broke into a Callinan St. residence early yesterday morning while the lone occupant was asleep. Police said the unidentified male assaulted the occupant, who had by then awakened, before running off with two purses. Wearing dark clothing with his face covered, the burglar had also found time to rummage through some of the victim's personal belongings prior to fleeing. The thief is described as heavyset and approximately 5'7" tall. Flin Flon RCMP ask anyone who saw a suspicious person in the uptown area during the early morning hours yesterday to contact them at 687-3491 or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Police have issued a reminder to residents to leave on inside and outside lights, and keep doors and windows locked. For people who live alone, police remind the public that a local business distributes personal panic alarms. They also suggest programming an emergency number on your phone's speed dial and keeping a hand-held phone close by.
