Flying robots attack city. It sounds like a headline straight out of the Weekly World News, but over the weekend it was the plot line that turned "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" into the U.S. box office champion. Another newcomer, the Bernie Mac baseball comedy "Mr. 3000," took second spot with $9.2 million. Horror sequel "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" slipped from first to third with a $9 million take. The new tennis comedy "Wimbledon," starring Kirsten Dunst, opened in fourth with $7.8 million. Rounding out the top five was the Kim Basinger thriller "Cellular," which earned $6.88 million in its second weekend in theatres. Rounding out the top ten were: "Without a Paddle ($3.71 million); "Hero" ($2.96 million); "Napoleon Dynamite" ($2.4 million); "Collateral" ($2.3 million); and "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement" ($2 million).
