The hit stage play "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" survived the transition to the big screen by opening in top spot at the U.S. box office over the weekend. The story of a devoted housewife whose husband wants to divorce her for her best friend grossed an estimated $22.7 million. The Will Smith comedy "Hitch," about a self-proclaimed 'date doctor,' continued its strong run in second place with $21 million. The comic book adaptation "Constantine," starring Keanu Reeves as a supernatural detective, was next with $11.8 million. Wes Craven's eery werewolf tale "Cursed" debuted in fourth spot with $9.56 million. Another newcomer, "Man of the House," a comedy starring Tommy Lee Jones as a Texas ranger protecting a group of cheerleaders, rounded out the top five with $9 million. Rounding out the top ten were: "Million Dollar Baby" ($7.22 million); "Because of Winn-Dixie" ($6.75 million); "Are We There Yet?" ($4 million); "The Aviator" ($3.88 million); and "Son of the Mask" ($3.77 million).
