The blockbuster cartoon sequel "Shrek 2" held onto top spot at the North American box office over the weekend, outpacing the new disaster thriller "The Day After Tomorrow." According to estimates released yesterday, the second "Shrek" film grossed $73.1 million compared to $70 million for "The Day After Tomorrow." Featuring the voices of Canadian comic Mike Myers and popular actress Cameron Diaz, "Shrek 2" has grossed $237.8 million in its first two weeks in theatres. "The Day After Tomorrow," a controversial interpretation of the harms of global warming, is expected to be one of this year's biggest hits. Finishing in third place over the weekend was the Brad Pitt epic "Troy," which grossed $11.5 million. In fourth with a disappointing debut weekend was the new Kate Hudson comedy "Raising Helen," which made $11.2 million. Finishing in fifth with $5.7 million was "Soul Plane," an urban satire starring rapper Snoop Dogg.5/31/2004
