If you like goals, the Whitney Forum is the place to watch a hockey game. The Flin Flon Bombers picked up another win, this time demolishing the Weyburn Red Wings 7-1. The Bombers lead the SJHL in goals with 211 in the season.
It was Easton Haygarth filling the net for the Bombers on Jan. 31. The forward scored three goals on the night, including the game's opening tally.
While Flin Flon's top line grabs headlines, it was Matt Flodell and Caleb Franklin picking up the other first period markers to give the home team a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Easton Haygarth would own the second period. He opened the scoring in the frame by finishing off a picture perfect three on two rush. Cole Rafuse turned a two on two into a three on two, and when Tristin Lemyre found Rafuse out wide, he quickly moved the puck back to the middle of the slot, and Easton Haygrarth made no mistake, tucking it past Douglas Wakelyn.
Easton Haygarth would finish his hat trick later in the period, tipping home a Mason Martin point shot on the powerplay. Martin has been an offensive force, especially on the powerplay. The Bomber captain has 36 points, good for third in league scoring by defensemen.
Donavan Houle-Villeneuve finished off the period putting the Bombers up six. The University of Maine commit missed the past week's games with an injury, but looked sharp. Houle-Villeneuve also had an assist on Easton Haygarth's hat trick goal.
Billy Klymchuck continued a trend of Bomber goals on rebounds, adding to the lopsided score in the third period.
Shayde Peterson ended Cal Schell's shutout bid with under 10 minutes to go in the third period, snapping a puck past the new Bomber. He made 22 saves in the victory, and the Bombers directed 45 pucks towards the Weyburn net. Schell has played in two games in Maroon and White, picking up wins both times.
With the win, Flin Flon is one step closer to clinching an SJHL playoff spot. The Bombers, who are second in the league standings took advantage of the tenth-place Red Wings. Flin Flon is on track to join the Battlefords North Stars in clinching a playoff spot next week.
The Bombers will be in action again tomorrow night when they host their divisional rivals, the La Ronge Ice Wolves. La Ronge is second in the division and have won three of the last four matchups between the teams.
