Flin Flon Bomber fans lining the stands of the Whitney Forum on Tuesday night will witness the start of a brand new quarterfinal series.
After dropping Game 1 in Weyburn by a score of 4-1 on Friday, Flin Flon shut out the Red Wings 1-0 on Saturday, turning a best-of-seven into a best-of-five.
The Bombers had their top line to thank Saturday, with Alex Smith (Brandon Switzer, Joel Kocur) potting his first of the postseason at 7:03 of the third period. Brenden Newton stopped all 30 shots he faced to earn the goose egg.
Newton relieved starter Zac Robidoux in Friday's game after the latter netminder let in three goals on 16 shots. Newton then stopped 24 of 25 shots. Scoring Flin Flon's lone goal Friday was Pierre-Luc Morin (Nick Shumlanski, Mitch Foyle).
Game 3 goes Tuesday at the Whitney Forum with Game 4 on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 both nights.
