The Flin Flon School Division will measure the positive results of placing children's hockey heroes in the classroom. Once again this year, members of the Flin Flon Bombers will spend time working with students at Ecole McIsaac School and Ruth Betts Community School. At last week's school board meeting, Trustee Glenn Smith, a supporter of the Bomber Buddies program, asked whether there was data to measure the impact of the initiative. Superintendent of Schools Blaine Veitch said he has spoken with the principals about producing such data this year. Joining the Bomber Buddies program this year are wingers Evan Akkerman, Seamus Maguire and Brody Robinson, along with centre Paul Sobry, at McIsaac. Ruth Betts welcomes netminder Devon Buffalo, defenceman Sean Whelan, winger Parker Evans-Campbell and centre Cole McCaig. The program has earned the endorsement of a number of educators, including McIsaac principal Steve Lytwyn. Lytwyn told the school board last year that the program has good potential to help at-risk students and provides positive role models to male and female students alike.
