Hockey teams don't usually score touchdowns, but the Bombers found a way to do it Tuesday, scoring a TD (with the extra point) in a 7-2 road win over Melville.
The Bombers would open the scoring early, with new Bomber Wyatt Cook scoring a goal off the rush about seven minutes in. Another rush later in the frame would bring a second goal for the Bombers, this time for Matt Egan, who pounced off a rebound from a 3-on-2 - Cole Tanchuk took the initial shot off a feed from Alexi Sylvestre, but while Millionaires goalie Kelton Pyne stopped Tanchuk, Egan wouldn't be denied. The maroon and white would carry a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
That lead would be extended early in the second, when Kylynn Olafson - playing his first game in two weeks due to an injury - picked off a stray pass near Pyne, shot it and Sylvestre banged in a rebound.
Melville would cut the lead to two with a goal by Tucker Buhay, shovelled in at the side of the net past Harmon Laser-Hume, but the Bombers would answer back before the period was half-over. Jeremi Tremblay would scoop up a loose puck in the neutral zone, zoom into the zone and beat Pyne to make it 4-1 Flin Flon shortly before the 30-minute mark.
Things continued on later in the period, with Jacob Vockler scoring his first goal since rejoining the Bombers on a mid-second powerplay to make it 5-1, while Jaeden Mercier would beat Pyne from 40 feet out with a quick wrister to extend Flin Flon's lead to five.
Things got chippy late in the second, first with a testy exchange on the boards with a few minutes to go, then with a fight between Bomber captain Lucas Fry and Melville's Rylan Bruns - Bruns landed more punches and got the takedown on Fry.
The Bombers made it seven midway through the third, with Mercier sliding home a goal past backup Mils goalie Clement Labillois after beating a defender wide. Melville added a second goal in garbage time courtesy of a Zach Cain rebound, but the result was already known.
Laser-Hume had one of his more relaxed outings in the Bomber net, making 21 saves en route to the win, while Pyne and Labillois split a 29 save performance - Pyne made 22, Labillois made seven.
The win gives Flin Flon an eight-game point streak, including six wins and two losses in extra time. The Bombers now have a 7-1-1-1 record and 16 points on the season.
The Bombers will continue their southern road trip with three more games this week, including a matchup with Estevan Wednesday night and games against Weyburn and Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday.
