Police found the body of a missing canoeist near Thompson on Saturday. Gary Frederick Nyman, 53, of Thompson, apparently drowned after his canoe overturned on Setting Lake above Sasagiu Rapids. Searchers in a Department of Natural Resources helicopter spotted the body shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, the Winnipeg Free Press reported. The discovery was made about 70 kilometres south of Thompson. Nyman had been reported missing the previous week. His body was reportedly found without a life jacket about 800 metres from where his canoe had been the previous day.
