Flin Flon won’t be breaking out the Blueberry Jam this summer. Organizers of the Blueberry Jam Music Gathering have announced that this year’s event has been cancelled outright due to COVID-19.
“Sometimes, things happen that are beyond our control and this is definitely one of those times. We are so disappointed to report that, due to the COVID-19 situation, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel Flin Flon’s Blueberry Jam Music Gathering,” reads a statement released by event organizers.
“We care about you and your health first and foremost and we cannot plan and deliver the Blueberry Jam you expect while ensuring everyone’s safety in the current conditions, nor can we guess what restrictions may be in place less than four months from now. It’s also not the time for us to ask for support from the businesses and organizations in our communities when we know they are faced with the consequences of the COVID-19 measures.”
It would have been the third edition of Flin Flon’s largest music gathering, which has become one of the City’s major annual events since its creation in 2018.
The Flin Flon Arts Council has also cancelled all remaining 2019-20 season activities due to the outbreak.
Despite this year’s edition being scuttled, the musical event is not permanently done and dusted. The dates for the 2021 edition of Blueberry Jam have already been tentatively set for August 5-9, 2021. In the meantime, organizers have had special Blueberry Jam pins produced for paid supporters of the event and interested buyers.
Members of the organizing committee have said artists and performers will be performing music online under the Blueberry Jam umbrella during the outbreak, along with releasing video from the two previous Blueberry Jam events.
“As soon as it can be done safely, we will jump at the chance to share live face-to-face music with you again,” reads the statement.
