The scent of leather and bike exhaust were in the air over the weekend as the Flin Flon Motorcycle Association hosted its 21st Annual Run to the Border. With a poker derby and parade during the day and a rocking social at night, Saturday's event attracted dozens of bikers for what has become a major social event. And it was all for a good cause. Paul Garrett, president of the association, expects to be able to present about $6,000 apiece to the Make A Wish Foundation and A Port in the Storm. Make A Wish grants wishes to sick children, while A Port in the Storm aims to offer affordable accommodations to families staying in Winnipeg for medical reasons. Saturday afternoon saw the bikers form a parade that began at the Gateway before making its way through town. Along the way, donations of toys for needy children were collected. Perhaps the most exciting moment of the event came Saturday at 10 p.m. when a 2013 Harley-Davidson Round Glide Custom, valued at about $26,000, was raffled off. Ed Andrusiak, a Creighton retiree, won the prize, having purchased just a single ticket. He made his way over to the Creighton Sportex, where the draw _ as well as the social _ took place. 'I was always saying if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any, but now I can change that,' said Andrusiak. The door prize, a secondhand Yamaha motorcycle, went to Dianne Hallberg, also of Creighton.
