Jonathon Naylor Editor The original goal of Rotary Park was simply to make Flin Flon a better place to live. Now area women who shared that objective are being memorialized at the popular downtown park. Over the summer, the Inner Wheel Club of Flin Flon donated a Memory Bench to be installed in the western portion of the park. Complete with a plaque bearing the names of deceased Inner Wheel members, the blue bench was an important project for the club. "The Inner Wheel Club of Flin Flon donated this bench to Rotary Park as a memorial tribute to Inner Wheel members who have dedicated time and energy into helping those in need on a local, national and international level," said Nadine Kucparic, club president. 'Remain with us' She said the four late club members honoured Ð June Barabonoff, Noreen Watson, "Billie" Parres and Joyce Mitchell Ð "remain with us in spirit as we forge ahead with the work that they were an important part of." Sadly, as time passes more names will have to be added to the bench, which can comfortably sit up to five adults (and even more children). Rotary Park is considered a Flin Flon landmark, having opened as Jubilee Park in 1935. The name celebrated the 25th anniversary of King George V's ascension to England's throne. Unfortunately, the King would die less than six months after the honour was bestowed. At some point after the Second World War, possibly 1945, Jubilee Park was renamed Rotary Park in honour of the club that had expended great dollars and labour to bring it to fruition. The Inner Wheel is the sister club of the Rotary.
