The Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is happy to be celebrating "Be Kind to Animals Week" from May 2 to 8, 2004. This week-long event aims to teach children and their families about respect toward animals, proper human-animal contacts, and the simple ways we can all help the animals in our community. The Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of animals from suffering, as well as the promotion of compassion, respect and humane treatment for all animals. Our executive and volunteers have been busy working towards the goal of building an animal shelter for the Flin Flon and Creighton area. As we don't have an animal shelter, we are thankful for the volunteers who open their homes to foster stray and abandoned animals. We have been asking people who find stray animals to call the animal control officer in their area. Until we have an animal shelter, that is our only option. We do keep in touch with the animal control officers, and any animal deemed to be a suitable pet for someone will be placed in a foster home until adopted. We are always grateful to the volunteers who keep our organization running. At present, we need volunteers to: Prepare proposals for various grants Work in the SPCA office Serve as foster homes for homeless animals Spearhead Junior SPCA's at Parkdale, Ruth Betts, Creighton and Cranberry Portage schools Work at bingos Phone and arrange for bingo workers Sell Nevada tickets at the Legion bingos on Wednesday nights The Junior SPCA at McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac is a great success because of a very dedicated, enthusiastic teacher by the name of Jan Pazdzierski. The kids are learning life lessons like kindness, compassion, responsibility, teamwork and generosity. These traits will make them responsible, kind, caring and giving adults. We would like to put more emphasis on education, the importance of spaying and neutering, and the proper care of the animals in our lives.
