Health Canada is advising the public to stop using a type of cell phone battery that may present a fire or burn hazard. Some of the LG brand TM-510 cell phone replacement batteries, sold through Verizon Wireless and intended for use in LG brand cell phones, may be counterfeit and lack a safety device to prevent overcharging, the agency says. The batteries were sold from Aug. 2002 to Nov. 2003 both over the Internet and at Verizon Wireless locations in the U.S. The counterfeit batteries are either black or white and the "Verizon Wireless" name may appear on the front. Below the words "Model/Modelo" or "LG" appear the following manufacturer/date codes: AEMLLL 02220 AEMMHH 02220 AEMLLL 02X25H AEMMHH 02725 Anyone with a battery that is potentially counterfeit may phone Verizon Wireless at 1-888-351-2121 to arrange for a replacement.
