Evan Sikorsky leads a double life.

A mild-mannered web designer by day, by night Sikorsky dons the persona of renegade rocker Axl Rose.

“He’s a badass,” said Sikorsky, whose Guns N’ Roses tribute band shook the RH Channing Auditorium last Saturday night, April 4. “He’s the opposite of what I am in reality. He’s the guy that I want to be, but maybe not necessarily.”

Clad in tight leather, cool shades and a red wig, a screeching Sikorsky morphed into Rose as he and his bandmates with The Nightrain headlined the Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA’s Second Annual Fur Ball Social.

Some 300 people filled the auditorium in support of the SPCA’s donation-dependent animal shelter.

Success

SPCA shelter manager Carmen Ward called the social a success.

“It’s just a fun atmosphere. It was great,” she said.

Based in Saskatoon, The Nightrain is a growing phenomenon with about 50 dates across Canada planned for 2015.

With Sikorsky bouncing around stage on lead vocals, the group offers an authentic G N’ R experience that showcases the band’s heyday hits.

But Sikorsky, 28, prefers the band’s lesser-known tracks.

“I like the ballads, the long ones,” he says.

Sikorsky says he and his bandmates were thrilled to be part of a fundraiser for the SPCA.

“We’re all animal owners and lovers, so this is something that hits close to home,” he said.

With expenses yet to be calculated, Ward does not have a final fundraising tally for the social.

She is already looking at next year’s Fur Ball Social and hopes to book a KISS tribute band.
