When the Flin Flon Community Choir (FFCC) was in New York City performing the Celtic Mass at Carnegie Hall a couple of years ago, a man named Elias Kulukundis was in attendance. This man is from a shipping magnate family and not only loves music, but loves to write. He was looking for a musician to write the music for a liberretta he had written. Well, to make a long story short, while the FFCC was enjoying a dinner cruise with the rest of the cast of Celtic Mass, someone overheard Elias saying that he was looking for a composer for his liberretta. Mark Kolt's name was mentioned and a few weeks later the liberretta was received in the mail by Mark! This couldn't have happened to a nicer, more talented person. After working diligently for many months, the musical "Three Brides for Kasos" was born. The story tells of the difficulties a young doctor, who has returned to his native Greek Island of Kasos in the late 1800s, only to find himself engaged to two women. This production is going to be performed in Flin Flon in June 2005. As well, further performances lasting about a week during the summer of 2005 will be booked using the Flin Flon cast as part of a Fringe Festival or theatre in a large Canadian city, whose location and dates will be announced in early 2005. Travel and lodging will be covered for the cast. Also, there is a possibility of further touring to an American or European location in the summer of 2006 with Edinburgh, Scotland being discussed. See 'Donation' P.# Con't from P.# The Flin Flon production requires about 20 cast members, almost all of whom will be required to sing, act and even for some to dance. This is opened to men and women ages 16 through to seniors. The Flin Flon production of the "Three Brides for Kasos" is being produced by the FFCC in conjunction with the Flin Flon Arts Council. In recognition of the efforts of Mark and Crystal Kolt as well as the local artists in putting on this production together, Mr. Elias Kulukundis will be donating approximately $30,000 to renovate the lighting system in the R.H. Channing auditorium. As Crystal Kolt said, "this is a miracle to have this for our community, it sure takes the pressure off, because the cost of lighting for our productions will drop considerably." The costs for lights and sound for a production normally cost about $13,000 and that cost will drop to about $6,000. Crystal went on to say, "this is so cool to have such equipment that can be used by the community, Ham Sandwich etc., and young people interested in lighting technology will have something to learn on!" Auditions are opened to people in Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage and The Pas as well as Flin Flon. A person doesn't have to be a member of the Flin Flon Community Choir to audition. So, if you have secretly held a dream of performing, here is your chance! But don't wait too long because the preparation packages will go fast. Interested persons should contact Mark or Crystal Kolt at 687-5413 to obtain preparation packages as the auditions will take place Saturday, November 13, 2004 by appointment arranged by Mark and Crystal. In some cases appropriate alternate auditions times may be considered.
