His Honour the Honourable Peter M. Liba, accompanied by his wife Shirley, will participate in the Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival in The Pas from February 18 to February 20, 2004. His Honour will also celebrate I Love to Read Month at two northern schools during the visit. "This is the fourth time we have had the privilege of participating in this annual celebration of northern culture and heritage," His Honour said. "We are looking forward to enjoying the fun and excitement of some terrific winter activities and the great hospitality for which Northern Manitoba is known." On Wednesday, February 18, at 12:15 p.m., the Lieutenant Governor will help launch the festival at the Opening Ceremonies at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall and, at 2:00 p.m., Their Honours will attend the Mini-Trappers' Festival at Opasquia Middle School/cole Opasquia. They will ride in the Torchlight Parade at 6:00 p.m., attend the Mushers' Briefing Banquet at the Norlite Hall at 7:00 p.m., and bring greetings at the Fur Queen Pageant being held at Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute at 8:00 p.m. On Thursday, February 19, at 10:00 a.m., the Lieutenant Governor will attend the Dog Races, firing the starting gun for the World Championship Dog Race. At 10:50 a.m., Their Honours will be at Joe A. Ross School where the Lieutenant Governor will read to three classes of Grade IV students. From there, they will attend a Perogy and Sausage Lunch at the Ukrainian Catholic Church at 11:45 a.m., followed by a visit to the Parish Hall at Opaskwayak Cree Nation for a sampling of the Native Food Buffet at 1:00 p.m. Continuing his I Love to Read Month activities, the Lieutenant Governor will read to three classes of Grade I students at Mary Duncan Elementary/cole lmentaire at 2:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Their Honours will attend the Preliminaries for the King Trapper, Queen Trapper, Junior King & Queen, and Moose & Goose Calling at the Lido Theatre, and will proceed to the Wescana Inn for the Dignitaries Reception at 9:00 p.m.
