The Flin Flon School Division has been granted $10,000 for the next two school years to support the Focus Program. Patty Korchinski and Dean Grove spearheaded the initiative to get the grant that supports attendance. The Focus Program targets attendance and the success of students participating in the initiative. It will 'gather data and share what we are learning with others in the province,' Veitch read from his Administrator's Report at the Flin Flon School Division's Board meeting, Tuesday. The School Division has also found success in their snack programs. Students at Ecole McIsaac School are able to participate in the Snack Program twice a week, for now, Veitch said. He went on to explain that once more staffing positions are filled it is hoped that the program will run more often. Ruth Betts Community School also has a Healthy Snack Program as well as a Lunch Program. The Healthy Snack Program will continue again this school year, which runs on a parent/teacher volunteer bases. Veitch acknowledged the hard work of the volunteers as well as those who contribute o the funding of the program. The Lunch Program was a trial last school year and will continue due to the success. The Family Room has also become a popular area for community members as groups like MOM's Group and Toddler Time are offered throughout the weekdays. Veitch noted that all schools will be participating in this year's Culture Days _ which start today. Highlights Other highlights of the School Board meeting were as follows: A request from First Student came from bus drivers voicing concern of low hanging branches on bus routes. A motion was made to send the request to the Facilities & Grounds Committee. It was asked if the branches could just be removed, but Veitch said it 'depends on where the branches are.' He said if they are on private property the Division can't just remove them. Trustee Angela Simpson commented that the decorating outside of Hapnot Collegiate 'looks super.' Motions were also made to approve a list of substitute teachers for the upcoming school year for both certified and non certified individuals.
