Flin Flon RCMP are looking for an unidentified male who may have tried to rob KFC at gunpoint last week. At about 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, a disguised male, carrying what appeared to be a rifle wrapped in a blanket, entered the restaurant and told the cashier that "This is a holdup." Just seconds later, the suspect, who wore a wig and a Halloween mask to conceal his identity, left the restaurant and drove away in a yellow sports car. It's not clear whether the incident was an unrealized armed robbery or a grim practical joke. "It could be perceived as a joke, but regardless, we're not going to take this lightly," said Cst. Bryan Bowskill. Whether the suspect was actually carrying a rifle does not matter in the eyes of the law. The fact that he had what appeared to be a rifle is enough for police to lay an attempted armed robbery charge, Cst. Bowskill said. Witnesses weren't sure whether the suspect had an accomplice in the sports car. There were customers in the restaurant at the time of the incident, and police hope one of those people can provide additional details. Police ask anyone with information on this or any other unsolved crime to contact them at 687-7488 or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).2/12/03
