A $6.1-million makeover of the Aspen Grove public housing complex continues to show progress.

New siding – green on the lower portion, yellow on the top – had gone up on much of the building on Monday.

The provincially funded project also includes new roofing and insulation along with ventilation, piping and structural upgrades.

Work began in August 2015. A Manitoba Housing official previously told The Reminder that the department hoped to complete the project by December 2016.

Aspen Grove last received a major upgrade – new siding – in 2003, but not all of the concerns with the building envelope, such as roof ventilation, were addressed at that time.

The 40-unit complex opened in 1972.
