Visitors to the Manitoba Legislature this month will enjoy the work of three Flin Flon artists. Pieces by Doug Dmytriw, Gladys Nomeland, and Samantha Rumak are among 80 selections being displayed by the Manitoba Arts Network. The exhibition, on display until July 28, is designed to highlight the artistic achievements of people in rural and Northern Manitoba. Dmytriw's piece is a soapstone carving entitled "Inside the Egg'; Nomeland has a drawing called "Dignity"; and Rumak has on display "Tharoh's Cat," a clay sculpture. Also part of the exhibition is a beaded handbag entitled "A Flower for Olive," the work of Bev Carriere of Cranberry Portage. The 80 works in the show were selected from the juried art shows held across the province this past spring. The range of artwork submitted to these competitions is broad. Categories include painting, wood and stone carvings, photography, fibre arts, traditional crafts, and mixed media. The subject matter often reflects the artist's environment. The show is sponsored by the Manitoba government, Great West Life, CBC Manitoba, Gardewine North, and Manitoba Crafts Council.
