Jonathon Naylor Editor Abstract art has a way of bringing out the inquisitive side of those who view it. Whenever art is open to interpretation, people want to learn all they can about it, the artist and any back story. Linda Sonnenberg Jackson knows all about that. In recent weeks a sculpture by the jovial local artist has been generating plenty of buzz Ð and it hasn't even been unveiled yet. "The mystery surrounding it is that people have heard about it but only a few have come to see it," she says. 'my'Pod Sonnenberg Jackson is referring to "'my'Pod", a large assemblage of wire mesh, fabric and paint she will enter in the Northern Juried Art Show being hosted at the R.H. Channing Auditorium this June. Sturdy enough and appropriately shaped to double as a desk, 'my'Pod got its name because its creator can sit at it listening to her iPod "and just get lost in a fantasy land." Sonnenberg Jackson describes the piece as "very wild and creative" with "caverns and openings" that make it "kind of bizarre and unique." She hopes the intrigue surrounding 'my'Pod will translate into greater public interest in the Northern Juried Art Show, which runs June 2-4, and an exhibit getting underway this week at the NorVa Centre. See 'Exhib...' on pg. 12 Continued from pg. 3 That exhibit, "Paints, Poetry and Wire", runs April 14-21. It will display the works of the 10 local artists chosen to participate in the RBC Emerging Artists program. Sonnenberg Jackson along with nine other artists were mentored by renowned Manitoba artist Marcel Debreuil, and the exhibit will showcase the fruits of their creative labour. Light entertainment will be provided this Friday evening, April 15, during an open house at which the public is welcome to mingle with the artists. Joining Sonnenberg Jackson will be Karen Clark, Sarah Trevor, Catherine Joa-Hall, Sam Armstrong, Kyrra Kosar, Elaine Angelski, Ron Watt, Monique Rainville and Norine Carriere. Fundraising raffle While 'my'Pod will not have a place at the exhibit, a smaller piece that fits into the sculpture will be among the prizes in a fundraising raffle. The NorVa Centre is located in the former Johnny's Confectionery building on Green Street.
