Submitted by NorVa Centre Thirteen NorVA artists, working out of the Northern Visual Arts (NorVA) Centre in Flin Flon, are busy packing up Flin Flon's first art show bound for Winnipeg. 'Borealism' will be shipped to the Manitoba capital. The show can be seen free of charge at the Cre8ery Gallery and Atudio, 125 Adelaide Street in the Exchange, July 5-14. Phone 204-944-0809 for hours of opening. Exploring the themes of the Boreal Forest region are artists Elaine Angelski; Marg Britton; Norine Carriere; Karen Clark; Eila Duncalfe; Betty Fitzsimons; Linda Mandes; Lois Pedersen; Monique Rainville; Tristan Simon; Linda Sonnenberg Jackson; Sarah Trevor; and Ron Watt. They explore the juxtapositions of decay and regrowth; fluid water and rigid rock; loss and hope; freezing and thawing; light and shadow. Using a variety of techniques and mediums, the artists uncover powerful physical and spiritual qualities in this region. How do these themes influence us individually? How do they influence northern mining communities like Flin Flon? How do they influence society as a whole? Woven throughout the exhibition is the power of the Boreal Forest _ that unique ability to regenerate and renew. Adding an extra dimension to the exhibit are words spun by local writers Derek Kemp, Glenda Walker Hobbs, Alex McGilvery, Norine Carriere and Raphael Saray.
