Art and wares taking over Sportex at Copper Fair

The Creighton Sportex will become a de facto art gallery this weekend as the Creighton Copper Fair, a juried art show and home business sale, returns after a four-year hiatus.

The Creighton Sportex will become a de facto art gallery this weekend as the Creighton Copper Fair, a juried art show and home business sale, returns after a four-year hiatus.

Art-lovers will be able to see 81 diverse works on display, as 37 artists have submitted their creations.

“We have work by both seasoned and amateur artists,” said Crystal Banting, assistant to the recreation director at Creighton Recreation Culture and Tourism, which is organizing the event.

A panel of judges will assess submitted artwork, and grant awards for first, second and third place in each category.

A variety of local and visiting home businesses will also set up their wares in the Sportex during the juried art show.

The Copper Fair will be held at the Sportex on Friday, Sept. 18 from 4 to 9 pm and Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9 to 4 pm.
