Authorities are investigating a suspected arson that destroyed the the RCMP Community Office on the northern Manitoba reserve of St. Theresa Point. This past Sunday, July 21, shortly after 4 a.m., RCMP were advised by the local band constable that the office was fully engulfed in flames. RCMP attended the scene and despite the efforts of the local fire department, the building is considered a total loss. No one was in the building at the time of the fire. The structure is a side by side building consisting of the RCMP Community Office on one side and a space used as storage by the St. Theresa Point First Nation on the other. The investigation continues with the assistance of the RCMP Thompson Major Crime Unit and the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner. The cause remains under investigation. The fire is being treated as an arson. Damage estimates were not available Monday.
