On Monday, July 5, 2004 at approximately 6:00 p.m., members from the Flin Flon Detachment received a report of a disturbance at a residence on Green Street in Flin Flon. Police responded and upon attending to the door, one member was met by a male carrying a rifle in his hand. This individual continuously cycled the action of the rifle and was ordered to drop the firearm. He exited the residence and stood on the front lawn pointing the rifle at the responding member. A second officer arrived as back up and they directed the individual to drop the rifle. It became apparent that the firearm wasn't loaded when the suspect pulled the trigger several times and it wouldn't fire. He threw the rifle, a 30-30, at the police who were behind cover. The suspect settled into a fighting stance and challenged the members to come and get him. Daniel Guy Volden, 43 years-old, of no fixed address, formerly of Alberta, was arrested and later remanded in custody in The Pas on July 12, 2004. He has been charged with Point Firearm, Possess Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace, Careless Use of Firearm, and three counts of Utter Threats.7/7/04
