Homeless animals are hoping to find a place to call their own for Christmas.
The Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA has nearly 20 dogs and cats up for adoption.
The SPCA will host an open house this Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1-4 p.m. There will be a sale offering $50 off any adoption fee.
The SPCA shelter is located off the Cliff Lake Road, off the Perimetre Highway across from the Princess Blvd. turnoff.
Dogs
No dog has been with the SPCA longer than Sarah. She was actually rescued by a Flin Flon family in The Pas.
Sarah is a black lab cross. She has issues with men, probably stemming from abuse in her past life. She is a smart girl that loves the outdoors and swimming in the lake.
Sarah just needs someone willing to work with her issues.
Skeeter was found by some campers out in the bush by Sandy Bay. He is full of character with his one floppy ear. Skeeter is a brown shepherd cross.
Mack is a four-month-old pitbull cross pup that was surrendered to us from a young mother in Cranberry Portage. He is such a good little boy! Mack has lived most of his life (up until now) alone outside.
Syren is a beautiful white shepherd cross that had been passed around from one family to the next. She is so deserving of a stable home.
Franklin is a big boy with a lot to say! He is a two-year-old grey and white shepherd cross that was never claimed from the Cranberry Portage pound.
Franklin was set to be euthanized but a town worker didn’t want to do that so he was brought to us.
We still have Hwy Billy and Sozo, who are being fostered at Stillwater Kennels.
Two other dogs are being fostered as well. One is Jochi, a interesting mixed breed; the SPCA has no idea what he is!
Jochi was brought to the SPCA from Denare Beach at eight weeks old. Some young children were enjoying throwing him against a wall!
Sherlock Holmes was also rescued from Denare Beach. He was found alongside the road in a ditch. Sherlock Holmes is a sweet boy, black in colour with some terrier in him.
Our newest puppies, Deeks and Kenzie, arrived last week, frozen and starving with their heads buried in a bag of garbage. A local couple found them because they knew they were in danger.
Cats
Moe is a grey tabby male found fending for himself in the Tweedsmuir St. area. A kind person realized he didn’t have an owner and took him to the SPCA.
See ‘Dogs’ on pg.
Continued from pg.
Hunter is a grey and white male with a cute freckle on his nose. A family realized he was living in their wood shed – and hunting their mice – so the kids named him Hunter. Winter was coming and they wanted him to be safe so they took him to the SPCA.
Grace was rescued from the woods off of the Hanson Lake Road. A lady was driving when two adult cats and four kittens walked across the road in front of her, so she stopped and followed them into the bush.
There she found the cats and kittens with a bag of opened kitten food and four empty beer bottles beside it. She could catch the kittens, but needed to borrow the SPCA’s live trap for the adults.
The adult cat, Will, and the kittens have all found homes, but Grace is still waiting.
No cat has been with the SPCA longer than Rhea the cat. She has now been at the shelter for over a year.
A mature tori female, Rhea was living uptown and was brought in by two concerned women.
Mr. Knight was a stray that an SPCA member was feeding. It’s hoped he can find a safe home soon.
Poochie is the SPCA’s newest cat. She was living in the Green St. area – it was cold out and a young lady found her under her porch.
The woman brought Poochie in thinking the cat was pregnant ( she wasn’t).
Noah is a big orange tabby, but he wasn’t always that way.
Noah was found near death in Creighton. A man had called and could hear cries of a cat in his neighbour’s shed.
The SPCA responded to the call to find Noah, skin and bones with frostbitten ears. The pads on his feet were frozen and falling off, and his hocks were bare flesh, exposing his tendons.
The SPCA nursed Noah back to health and he is now the resident house cat, living the life as king. He is so popular that people come to the shelter and ask to see him specifically!

The SPCA has “DNA My Dog” kits for sale, a gift idea for that animal lover on your list who has no idea what the breed of their dog is.
And this year the SPCA is offering a great Christmas idea: you can make a donation in a friend / family member’s name and choose a photo of a shelter animal you would like to sponsor. This also comes with a nice certificate.
The SPCA is holding its Christmas bake sale in the lobby of the Whitney Forum this Friday, Dec. 13 during the Bomber game.
The SPCA reminds the public that with the cold weather being experienced, please report any animals that are outside being neglected. Contact the SPCA or the RCMP.
