Jonathon Naylor Editor The Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA is overflowing with animals in need of good homes. A dozen pets _ seven dogs and five cats _ are now up for adoption through the animal-advocacy organization. 'It's kind of been building up for a while,' says SPCA vice-president Debbie Hiebert, who is caring for the animals. 'Some of these animals I have had for a year or more.' In recent months, Hiebert has had to turn away many homeless animals, particularly dogs, due to space limitations. Among the dogs needing a home is Lady, a three-year-old Husky cross Hiebert describes as 'very bright' and loving of the bush. Another three-year-old female Husky cross, Junebug, is 'a real character' who is smart and happy but cannot go to a home with cats. Then there's Billy, a one-year-old Husky cross who combines his high energy levels with a friendly disposition. Piper, a 10-month-old female Husky cross, is 'a good little dog' who is on the quieter side. Rooney also needs a family. He's an 11-month old Husky-Lab cross whom Hiebert says would make a great pet. Much the same can be said about Reef, a two-year-old male Husky cross. He has an abundance of energy but, unlike many of his canine pals, never tries to run off. Last but not least on the list of dogs is MacKenzie, a Boxer-Husky cross who is a year and a half old. Hiebert says she is 'a sweet little girl' who is good with both kids and other dogs. For cats, the SPCA is looking to adopt Sweetie, a four-year-old female described as friendly and easygoing. Birch, a one-year-old female, needs an owner who will spend lots of time with her given that she was born in the wild. 'A nice friendly fellow' is how Hiebert describes Darby, a one-and-a-half-year-old male. Chickadee is three years old, very friendly and has been with the SPCA for some nine months already. As such, she is eager to find long-term accommodations. Finally there is Balsam, a three-year-old male who was rescued off Highway 10 last summer after apparently being dumped there. He is on the shy side. For information about adopting one of these animals, contact Debbie at 687-4494.
