Jonathon Naylor Editor A survey in today's Reminder will help shape the future of seniors housing in Flin Flon. Age Friendly Flin Flon, a volunteer committee, has included the survey on the back page of the newspaper you are reading. Committee member Colleen McKee says information gleaned from the survey will help determine what type of seniors housing is needed. 'If we want to plan for the future of our community, we want to find out what we need,' she says. The brief survey asks questions such as household income and how many years the individual has before he or she will need seniors living accommodations. It is a follow-up to a survey distributed last year that found the top concern of area seniors is the availability of affordable housing designed for them. When informed of that result, Manitoba Housing Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross asked that the community be specific in what type and size of housing project is required. The survey is open to all area residents aged 50 and up, whether they live in Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach, Cranberry Portage or the surrounding cottage areas. While a future housing project may be built on the Manitoba side of the border, seniors living in Saskatchewan may one day find they need those accommodations. You can simply rip off the back-page survey, fill it out and hand it in. Our online subscribers can print off the survey and do the same. The deadline to hand in completed surveys is Feb. 22. They are being accepted at Flin Flon City Hall, the Aqua Centre, The Orange Toad, the Co-op and The Reminder. Anyone with questions may phone Aimee Deans of Age Friendly Flin Flon at 204-681-7542.
